Several (semi-)authentic contexts where imperatives are typically reported are established. Students first read dialogues between Doctor Baymax and his patients, and note how the doctor’s advice is reported. They then practise reporting imperatives in two scenarios: (1) being a class monitor to help relay messages for the teacher and classmates, and (2) asking for and giving advice in relation to their personal problems. These tasks require students to use the target language structure to report instructions and suggestions in meaningful daily contexts. The four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking are integrated in the lesson.

Level of Students: Senior Primary

Lesson Duration: 90 mins

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to report others’ instructions and suggestions using the appropriate structure

Lesson Plan: Reported Speech (Senior Primary)

Teaching Materials:

Worksheets

PPT

Useful Websites:

http://edition.tefl.net/ideas/games/reported-speech/

https://www.stlcc.edu/docs/student-support/academic-support/college-writing-center/reported-speech.pdf

Acknowledgements:

The copyright of the learning materials belongs to The Education University of Hong Kong.
