Lesson/Unit Summary: It is important to present the target grammar item in an appropriate context. The genre of news report has been chosen for the teaching of the passive voice in this lesson. An extract of the cartoon Zootopia with the rabbit Judy as a police officer is presented as the context. The lesson includes a lot of digital materials to arouse and maintain students’ interest in their learning of the form, meaning and use of the passive voice. Students have to write a news report on a robbery investigated by Judy as an extended task.

Level of Students: Senior Primary

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 

1. Show an understanding of the form of the passive voice;

2. Construct sentences appropriately using passive voice;

3. Write a news article using passive voice appropriately.
