Type 2 Conditional (Junior Secondary)

Lesson/Unit Summary: The lesson involves a lot of students’ imagination in the learning of Type 2 Conditional Sentences. It begins with the listening of an imaginative song “If I had a millions dollars” as the comprehensible input about what one would do if one were a millionaire. An inductive approach is used when students have to examine the song lyrics to generalize the grammatical features of Type 2 Conditional. Students are also asked to compare how Type 1 and Type 2 are different from each other in terms of meaning and form. Students’ learning is reinforced in the imaginative activity in which they have to think about what they would do if they had Harry Potter’s magical items. A movie trailer is shown to students to arouse their interest and stimulate their thinking. It is expected that students will demonstrate their creativity and take an active role in expressing their innovative ideas.

At the end of this unit, students should be able to:

1. Identify the form of conditional sentence Type 2
2. Use conditional sentence Type 2 to talk about imaginary situations
3. Show an understanding of the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 conditional sentences
