Lesson/Unit Summary: In this unit, students learn numbers, animal names, singular and plural forms and body actions. The unit consists of four lessons. The poem selected for the first lesson is “How many?” and that for the second to the fourth lessons is “Zoo Dream”. In Lesson 1, a song and a video are used to introduce numbers 1 – 20. Pictorial clues are also used to help pupils develop an understanding of the poem and learn how to ask questions about quantities. Through the “Stationery Buyer Game” and a stanza-writing task, students are given opportunities to consolidate their learning of number telling. In Lessons 2 to 4, students learn animal names and body action verbs. Their attention is also drawn to the alliteration used in the poem “Zoo Dream”. Through a self-discovery activity, students learn to distinguish the singular and plural forms. Various activities such as games, body movements and information gap activities are designed to strengthen students’ learning. The video at the end aims to expand students’ vocabulary on body actions and help them complete the final writing task.
